Director of Christian Education

The Director of Christian Education guides and supports safe, meaningful, and robust Education programs, with a focus on children and youth.

Reporting Relationship: The Director of Christian Education reports to the Pastor, under the support of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.

Essential Functions:

  1. Working with the Education Team, develop goals and strategies for Education programs to promote faith development and spiritual growth of children from preschool through high school ages. This includes choosing curriculum; defining and implementing policies; and overseeing a yearly schedule of programs, including Sunday morning sessions, seasonal initiatives, holiday worship services, and additional events.
  2. Foster a culture of invitation and welcome to new or loosely-affiliated families; conduct community outreach in authentic and relevant ways.
  3. Supervise and support paid staff in the Nursery and Preschool Ministry Coordinator. Work with existing Education Team and church leadership to recruit, train, and support volunteer leaders who facilitate Sunday School sessions, services, and events.
  4. Strategize for and facilitate youth Sunday School programming for grades 7-12, with a focus on revitalization of this cohort.
  5. Serve as a resource person for families in nurturing their family’s faith development. Model proactive leadership for the congregation in meeting the needs of families and encouraging the participation of children.
  6. Maintain regular communications with families, staff, and congregation, to highlight Education ministries, invite participation and feedback, and foster sense of shared ownership.
  7. Learn about and share recommended methods in Christian faith formation.
  8. Participate in collaborative church administration as needed, including but not limited to providing updates to the Church Council, supplying data for staff reports, and submitting an annual Education Report at the church conference.
  9. Comply with, monitor for, and periodically evaluate Safe Sanctuaries Policy and all other applicable church policies.
  10.  Become familiar with and carry out specific tasks related to the above functions, with support from the Pastor, staff, and church leadership.

  5. Strong administrative and supervisory skills.

Terms:

This is a year-round position, averaging 15 hours per week @ $15,600 per year.

Preschool Ministry Coordinator

The Preschool Ministry Coordinator supports the Education Team and BWUMC Education programs by promoting a safe and nurturing Preschool Ministry experience, fostering community and connection among families, and conducting outreach to invite and welcome new participants.

Reporting Relationship: The Preschool Ministry Coordinator reports to the Director of Christian Education, under the support of the Staff Parish Relations Committee.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Collaborate with volunteer leaders to plan and facilitate sessions during worship.
  2. Engage and supervise any paid or volunteer childcare staff.
  3. Communicate with parents, staff, leaders, and community members: responding to needs, sharing stories about the ministry, inviting guests, and engaging visitors.
  4. Work with Education Team on special events, as hours permit.
  5. Comply with Safe Sanctuaries Policy and all other applicable church policies.

This is a 10 month position averaging 5 hours per week @ $4000 per year.
