Food Security Roundtable Conversation

  • Belmont-Watertown UMC 421 Common St Belmont, MA, 02478 United States (map)

Food security is a basic human right and a Gospel mandate. Jesus’ compassion for the hungry is found through his earthly ministry. What is most instructive for us is knowing that providing food for those without is the same as feeding Jesus. Supporting local food pantries has long been a practice of local churches and our church is no exception. We support the Belmont and Watertown Food Pantries with financial and food donations, volunteer time and building space (Watertown).

We are currently researching the redevelopment of our Watertown church site. This learning opportunity invites us to consider how our Food Pantry partnership can benefit from an effort to preserve the church as a sustainable community asset.  Please join church leaders, members, Watertown Food Pantry staff and volunteers, and neighbors for a Food Security Roundtable Conversation over Zoom on Tuesday, January 26th at 7:00 PM.

At the Food Security Roundtable you will hear from Susan Dorson, the Program Director at Arlington Eats. Susan conducted extensive research prior to launching the construction of the new Arlington Eats food security site. You will also be able to learn from Kathy Cunningham, the Watertown Food Pantry Coordinator, about current and future needs.  Please mark your calendars and plan on attending and participating in the Food Security Roundtable Conversation.
